Each year during the last weekend of July, the Men of St. Paul’s cook and serve a lot of slow cooked pork shoulders and chickens. Proceeds from the event go to support a variety of programs in the parish, the community, and around the world.

It is time again for the St. Paul’s annual cookout! This year celebrates our 60th anniversary. Quite the milestone for our beloved event, all in a year of many other milestones! As you can imagine, we have carefully considered holding this year’s BBQ and have had a lot of discussion along with prayers about what course we should take. Specifically, should we continue as scheduled with a modified version of our event, should we reschedule for a later date, or should we cancel altogether. The most critical question we addressed was, can we confidently serve our membership and community in a safe and uncompromising manner, and if so, what changes do we make to accomplish this?

To that end, we will be following all of the guidelines of the Tennessee Pledge and specifically those regarding Covid-19 food service regulations. This will include masks, gloves, approved sanitizing solutions, and adherence to recommended numbers of people in our “service area”. In addition, this year will be 100% carry out. No meals will be “eaten in”. All food items will be wrapped or boxed up and ready to be picked up instead of our usual service lines containing open pans of food. Only our volunteers will be allowed inside the church buildings. Every step in our planning this year has the safety of our church members and guests in mind.

The event date is Saturday, July 25th from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. Please note, these hours are a slight adjustment from previous years. Pre-ordering is available and encouraged. You may do so using the link above. Only bulk items will be available for pre-orders.

In addition, the women of St. Paul’s will be selling a variety of delicious homemade desserts that can be pre-ordered and picked up during the event. A list of dessert selections is also available on the website. Please place all orders before noon on July 23rd. We ask that you pick up your order between 2:00 and 4:00 PM on Saturday. After 4:00 PM, all food will be sold and no longer reserved.

Individual meals will be available as well, and there is no need to need to pre-order. Each meal will be pre-packed with your choice of pork, or pork and chicken, along with baked beans, vegetable mix and Coleslaw. Unfortunately, Ho cakes will not be offered this year.

Tickets will not be mailed this year. Instead, cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted during the event. If you would like to buy tickets, you may do so by contacting the church office. With the necessary adjustments made to make safety this year’s top priority, the one thing that won’t change is the same delicious food we’ve been serving all these years! That is our pledge!

Volunteers are always needed, so if you are available, please contact Chris Lassiter at Chris.lassiter@cushwake.com or 615-594-5460 if you are able to assist with any aspect of the BBQ. Proceeds from the BBQ and Bake Sale support outreach and in-reach ministries in our community. We thank you and look forward to seeing you at this great Franklin tradition!
